Shodh Yatra Tuensang & Kiphire

The 38th Shodhyatra (2016) in Nagaland’s Tuensang district, the team—part of a nationwide initiative covering over 5,000 km across India—explored the region’s rich biodiversity, indigenous knowledge, and challenges like limited livelihood options leading to wildlife hunting during lean months. Despite high educational aspirations, school dropout rates were steep due to remote terrain, with some villages hosting makeshift hostels for students. The warm, self-reliant Naga communities showcased remarkable cleanliness, rooftop water harvesting, and artistic traditions, while centenarians shared wisdom on compassion and resilience. Local innovations like multipurpose food processors and bamboo tools impressed the team, prompting follow-ups by SRISTI and NIF. The yatra, organized with Better Life Foundation, highlighted the urgent need for value addition in local resources to curb ecological stress and preserve cultural heritage.

The 50th Shodhyatra (2024) in the beautiful Kiphire district of Nagaland, India. This unique learning journey brings together 56 yatri from 14 states, who are immersing themselves in the local culture and sharing their own experiences. Through this exchange, the yatri are gaining a deeper understanding of the rich traditions and challenges of the region, fostering a spirit of mutual learning and respect.
