Spreading Financial Awareness Through Nukkad Natak: A Grassroots Initiative in Nagaland

In 2021, the Better Life Foundation (BLF), in collaboration with the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank Ltd and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), organized a unique initiative aimed at promoting financial literacy in some of Nagaland’s underserved communities. This program, implemented under the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) managed by NABARD’s Regional Office in Nagaland, used the medium of Nukkad Natak (street plays) to spread awareness about various social security schemes provided by the Government of India.

Nukkad Natak was chosen as the primary mode of communication for this campaign. These street plays, performed in local dialects and with relatable storylines, effectively conveyed the benefits of financial inclusion and the importance of social security schemes, reaching people who might otherwise have been left out of conventional awareness campaigns.

The initiative fostered a sense of financial responsibility and long-term financial planning. By bringing critical information to the doorstep of marginalized communities, BLF is helping bridge the financial literacy gap and create a more financially inclusive society.
